    The Senior Desktop Engineer is a critical role within the IT organization. This position requires a highly motivated problem solver with above average customer service and desktop engineering skills. The right candidate will work diligently to support our customer base (aka BRG user) and also design, create, implement and support our Windows and Mac desktop environment (including virtual) firm wide.  This position can be located in our Boston, Chicago, Emeryville or Washington, DC office.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop, implement and maintain firm wide computer (laptop and virtual desktop) images. Test, evaluate, and package software and applications for computer distribution. Responsible for successful deployment and upgrades of desktop images globally. Responsible for maintaining the tools used for deploying those images on different software, hardware and virtual platforms (desktop, laptop, workstations, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS, etc.) firm wide.
    • Develop, implement and maintain firm standards for desktop configurations, application delivery and desktop security. Conduct reviews to ensure compliance to standards. Research tools and processes to identify usage and capacity troubles as they develop and assist in developing long-range plans to address problems.
    • Evaluate and recommend laptop and desktop hardware platforms for use by BRG personnel.
    • Assist application engineers with software deployments and upgrades.
    • Responsible for keeping desktop applications updated. Package and push updates to computers for a number of programs (such as Adobe, BitLocker, GFI LanGuard, Java, Mac OS, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office 365, SQL and Symantec, etc.).
    • Serve as desktop image subject matter expert and escalation point for advanced desktop Service Desk issues.
    • Respond to user requests for assistance related to all deployed hardware and software.
    • Troubleshoot all mobile equipment, including laptops, tablets and smartphones.
    • Help customers with questions regarding usage of industry standard commercial off the shelf (COTS) software applications.
    • Manage Active Directory (AD), including creating and modifying user settings.
    • Work as part of a team, sharing duties with other IT personnel throughout the company.
    • Coordinate project actions with IT Manager and IT staff members, vendors and technical representatives, internal and external clients.
    • Administer Help Desk software.
    • Monitor Network Operations Center.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 5-8 years of IT experience, working in a similar capacity.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have a positive, professional attitude.
    • Strong knowledge of technology, hardware and software in a professional services environment (e.g., extensive knowledge of Windows 7 and 10 operating systems, desktop and network security issues and software functionality and deployment, including Microsoft Office (2013/2016) and Microsoft Office 365.
    • Strong background in scripting and desktop engineering, working with desktop management tools including Microsoft SCCM to build and maintain images. Must understand how to package and push patches as well as working with Group Policies.
    • Ability to solve complex problems by gathering facts and applying detailed trouble-shooting techniques.
    • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload along with project assignments.
    • General working knowledge of basic networking (TCP/IP, DNS, Routing, Sub-netting).
    • General working knowledge of anti-virus, backup and remote access technologies.
    • Position will be based in Boston, Chicago, New York or Washington DC, but IT personnel are required to support clients in all BRG locations globally, including personnel and independent contractors working remotely.
    • IT personnel may be required to travel for short periods of time. Trips will sometimes extend to 5 working days and could on rare occasions extend beyond 5 business days. All travel expenses will be reimbursed.
    • On-call and overtime will be required with this position.
    • Core Support hours for all BRG offices are from 8:00am-7:00pm local. This shift will be between those hours.
