  • Overview

Berkeley Research Group (BRG) provides independent expert testimony, advisory services and data analytics to major law firms, Fortune 500 companies, government agencies and regulatory bodies around the world.  BRG experts provide sophisticated economic, financial, and analytical advice across a wide range of disciplines including antitrust and competition policy, complex damages, finance, healthcare, intellectual property, valuation, and workforce issues.  The firm consults with clients in major industry sectors with compliance, business process improvement and strategy consulting.   BRG also is a significant provider of bankruptcy and restructuring services in the U.S.

BRG is a rapidly growing, multiple hundred-million revenue organization with over 1,100 employees in 24 U.S. cities and 13 countries.    For the right individual, this challenging but rewarding role provides an opportunity to complete the construction of an efficient and effective accounting and finance system to support BRG’s global growth. This position is based in BRG’s Emeryville, CA headquarters although for exceptional candidates BRG would consider basing this role in Miami or Washington DC.

This is a newly created position reporting to the Corporate Controller.   This role has two major focuses.   First, internal and external financial reporting including overseeing the monthly, quarterly and annual closing process and preparation of financial statements for all international operations and subsidiaries (including statutory statements and overseeing associated audits), explaining variances and maintaining an effective system of internal controls for these activities.  Second, the Assistant Controller, International will also play an important role in planning, coordinating, managing and/or implementing a wide variety of financially-oriented international operations activities, including tax planning and compliance, intercompany arrangements plus leading or participating in the leadership of a variety of other projects associated with the expansion of BRG’s international operations.

The Assistant Controller, International is responsible, in partnership with legal, for insuring that all policies and procedures necessary for effective and well-controlled international operations are in place and that responsibilities are well defined and appropriately assigned.   The Assistant Controller, International is responsible for all activities necessary to support international operations that are not specifically assigned to roles in BRG’s Legal, IT, Facilities/Operations, HR, Payroll, Billing, Accounts Receivable or Treasury functions.

The candidate must have superb skills in working in matrix with a wide variety of people in multiple functional units, nations and time zones.   The person in this role must be comfortable thinking broadly about the needs of BRG’s non-U.S. operations rather than just a narrow set of functional responsibilities.
